Samart Payakaroon is widely regarded as one of the most naturally gifted fighters in Muay Thai history and a central figure of Thailand's golden era during the 1980s. Born in Chachoengsao Province, he began fighting at a young age, as is common in Thailand, and quickly stood out for his exceptional timing, balance, and composure. Fighting out of the famous Sityodtong camp, Samart developed a style categorized as Muay Femur — a technical, intelligent approach built on control, anticipation, and efficiency rather than aggression.

Inside the Bangkok stadium system, Samart became a dominant champion. He captured the Lumpinee Stadium title in multiple weight classes and was awarded Thailand's prestigious Fighter of the Year honor several times. What separated him from most fighters was not physical strength but precision: he controlled distance with his teep (push kick), slipped strikes with minimal movement, and countered opponents with perfect timing. Rather than overwhelming opponents, he made them miss, lose balance, and appear ineffective under traditional Thai scoring criteria.

Unlike many Muay Thai champions, Samart also succeeded in professional boxing. He transitioned into Western boxing and won the WBC super bantamweight world championship, becoming one of the very few fighters to achieve elite success in both sports. His boxing skill — especially his jab, defense, and ring awareness — further reinforced his reputation as a complete striker rather than a specialist in one discipline.

Beyond titles, Samart's influence on Muay Thai has been long-lasting. Fighters and coaches still study his movement, defensive awareness, and ability to control fights with minimal effort. He represented the opposite philosophy to pressure fighters: instead of exhausting opponents physically, he defeated them mentally by making them chase, miss, and lose confidence. Today, Samart Payakaroon is remembered not just as a champion, but as the technical ideal of Muay Thai — a fighter whose success was built on timing, intelligence, and mastery of fundamentals rather than toughness alone.
